Lovely, isn't it?
Don't let such a captivating atmosphere lull you into a state of complacency… what you don't see can hurt you!
Each year, some 20,000 homes burn due to faulty chimneys, wood stoves and fireplaces, according to the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA), who says that annual inspections are of utmost importance. Most causes of chimney fires are undetectable to the naked eye, hidden in parts of the chimney that only a professional chimney sweep would even know to inspect.
The Georgia Chimney Sweep Guild (GCSG) was founded in 1982 by a group of profesional chimney sweeps that were interested in improving both the industry and their own methods of doing business. Today, the organization's members are eager to share the benefits of the profession to the general public, to gain opportunity to increase their own knowledge and to enjoy the camraderie afforded to its members.
The GCSG is committed to the professionalism of the chimney sweeping industry and the certification of its member sweeps. Certified chimney sweeps (graduates of an accredited, strenuous course given by the Chimney Safety Institute of America - CSIA) are familiar with current codes, regulations and requirements that decrease your chances of experiencing a chimney fire.
